Socio Economic Development in Bankura District, West Bengal

Abstract

This paper explores the present status of development in Bankura District, West Bengal. Considering some basic parameters of development in different sectors, this attempt tries to realities the real picture of development. (Siddique,G.  and S.Tah, (2009) To realize the status of development in this study area, we have considered some parameters like literacy, percentage of urban population, percentage of main workers to the total no of workers, percentage of cultivated area to the total geographical area, percentage of irrigated area to the total cultivates area, livestock resources, health status, educational status, drinking water supply, power supply, postal and banking services, pucca road, etc. . This study reveals the degree of development varies considerably among the different blocks. To understand the status of development, we have calculated Mean, Standard Deviation, Standardized Value, composite index.
