Abstract

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 35-day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union in 1962 while the Russian-Ukraine war was a sudden invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces on February 24, 2022. Be it the Cuban Missile Crisis or the Russian-Ukraine war, the main reason behind these issues was the fight for Global dominance between Russia and the NATO powers. This study, therefore, is a comparative analysis of the ideological conflicts in Cuba and Ukraine and analyses the tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union after 1945. Against this backdrop, the study examines the age-old political confrontations between the United States of America, its NATO allies, and Russia. The study argues that the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Russian-Ukraine have the same genealogy and the same similarities. To achieve the goals of this study, data were gleaned from secondary sources then analysed using qualitative methods and presented following a thematic approach. According to the findings of this study, the Russian-Ukraine war, just like the Cuban Missile Crisis, was a result of the arms race going on between the US and Russia.
