Abstract

Local culture and modernization are two things that now seem inseparable in the development of the times in Indonesia. Indonesia, as a country abundant in local cultures such as Ruwat bumi and shadow puppet art, has to undergo objectification of degradation due to foreign culture that develops in Indonesia and seems to replace traditional culture, which is considered old-fashioned and outdated. Indonesia's diverse socio-cultural ethics resulted in a large hole in limiting foreign cultures and resulted in efforts to preserve traditional culture being problematic. A descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological case study approach will be used to examine the track record of development, existentialism, forms and efforts to conserve shadow puppets and the Ruwat bumi ceremony in the area of Tlagayasa Village, Bobotsari District, Purbalingga Regency, Central Java. Through literacy studies, it is intended that the condition of the low paradigm of understanding the socio-cultural existentialism of shadow puppets in Ruwat bumi can be studied to broaden the treasures of understanding positive traditional values.
