Abstract

In modern automobile, there are many components which are used for reducing the harmful gases (smoke) come out from vehicles. EGR valve is one of them component which is basically used to reduce the amount of NOx in exhaust gases. The EGR valve re-circulates some calculated amount of exhaust into the inlet manifold. Due to the higher temperature of exhaust, the EGR valve start malfunctioning after some time in field.  Heavy smoke is one of the major issues of vehicle in field. After some trials, it was found that EGR valve malfunction is one of the factor for heavy smoke in vehicles.  It was assume that due to the higher back pressure of exhaust, the EGR valve piston start lifting at some points without any vacuum. The Experiments are conducted on a four stroke CI Diesel engine to find following results:-

               i.      Is there any points where EGR valve piston lifts without vacuum?

ii.      What are the conditions of vehicle at which EGR valve piston lifts without vacuum?

iii.      How much is the lift of EGR valve piston without vacuum applied?
