Abstract

Poor municipal solid waste management is one among the major factors responsible for unsanitary community and outbreak of various infectious diseases within the community which causes morbidity and mortality particularly in the developing country in which Nigeria is included particularly Kaduna state and Kaduna metropolis. The aim of the research is to find out method of solid waste management in Kaduna metropolis. The objectives of this study include to determine the factors responsible for poor solid waste management in Kaduna Metropolis. Questionnaires and Check list were used as instrument for data collection; the population of the study includes all workers of Kaduna Environmental Protection Authority, Private solid waste service providers and households. Simple random sampling was used in sampling 552 respondents and descriptive/inferential statistics was used in analyzing the data. The findings showed that poor solid waste management in Kaduna metropolis was as a result of low socioeconomic status of Kaduna residence and lack of dedication and cooperation between Kaduna Environmental Protection Authority and Private solid waste service providers.
