Abstract

Non-communicable diseases have become a serious global health burden and a source of major challenges for healthcare systems throughout the world. This paper presents a short overview of the ever-increasing burden due to non-communicable diseases, stating the huge challenges faced and presenting the preventive measures taken globally. The rise in NCDs, such as diabetes, cancer, respiratory disorders, and cardiovascular illnesses, is closely associated with changes in urbanization, demography, and lifestyle. The present study deals with the various issues raised by the growing prevalence of NCDs: rising financial consequences, inequalities of access to health care, and the complications arising from the interaction of genetics with the environment. The study also deals with a comprehensive multi-sectoral approach to NCDs and indicates that prevention must be an intrinsic part of all global health initiatives covering the legislative frameworks, public health interventions, and improvements in lifestyle. It also emphasizes some of the globally successful prevention measures, such as early detection and screening programs, promotion of healthy diets, regular physical activity, and tobacco control. This article discusses issues like limited funds, shortage of medical facilities, and the intersectoral requirement to work. Additionally, this article identifies that a boost in technology is required, along with awareness programs, education campaigns, and the formulation of prevention strategies. This study is a summary of global challenges blaming the emergence of NCD and identified workable measures for prevention. It outlines the urgency of the need to continue building healthier lives, improving access to health care, and translating evidence-based policies into reality to reduce the burden of NCDs on global health.
