Abstract

This paper critically examines prostitution as a social phenomenon in present day Nigeria. It examines many factors like unemployment, poverty, family and peer influences as the factors responsible for it in the society. There is the need to control it because of the devastating effects it has on individuals and the society in general. The paper concludes that apart from the need to enact more stringent laws to curb the menace, there is equally the need for combined efforts by the government and non-governmental agencies alike to control it by creating more employment opportunities and enlightening the people of the danger
