Abstract

Hip hop has been described as the "a voice for the voiceless.” And hip hop artists have often shown their social consciousness by addressing issues facing the African American community in America. The term hip hop as used in this paper refers to one of its elements namely rap music. It is thus used interchangeably in the paper. This paper will explore the contribution of selected hip hop (rappers)artist in the struggle againstpolice brutality, mass incarceration and underlying problems of racism.
