Abstract

Gender can be distinguished as a type of noun classification strategy. Gender is a noun class system which is composed of two or three classes; nouns that have human male and female referents tend to be in separate classes. Other nouns that are categorized in the same way in the language may not be categorized by any correlation with natural sex distinctions. The present paper explores the interaction between noun classification and evaluative gender distinction and describes different categories of the linguistic gender in Mising language.
