Abstract

The study assesses the risky sexual behaviour among in-school adolescents in some selected secondary schools in Mubi Metropolis. The study was carried out using descriptive survey design.

Four hundred questionnaires were administered to four selected secondary schools in Mubi Metropolis. Stratified sampling technique was adopted in selecting the respondents. The instrument titled risky sexual behaviour among in-school adolescents in Mubi Metropolis was validated by an expert in Guidance and Counseling from the Department of Science Education.

The reliability value was calculated using Kudder-Richardson formular (KR-21) which yielded a reliability co-efficient of 0.87. Data were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages while t-test was used to test all the hypotheses formulated at 0.05 level of significant. The study revealed among others that most of the adolescents students are facing risky sexual behaviors in Mubi metropolis, the emergencies and disasters, poverty, food security, gender inequality, protecting family honour and insecurity are the significant factors that encourages risky sexual behaviors among in school adolescents. The study recommended among others that the media house programme should re-organized in such a way that it is embodies educative and moral programme for in-school adolescent to learn better ways of living, parents should be mindful of the actions, especially some sexually loose ones and well articulated curriculum for the secondary school education should be made to focus on sexual feelings, sexual terms, sexual deviations, sexual transmitted infections and their damaging effects.
